Gingerbread Stars

Ingredients
For Gingerbread:
  • Plain Flour - 300 g
  • Baking Soda - 1 tsp
  • Ground Ginger - 2 tsp
  • Cinnamon Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Nutmeg Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Butter - 125 g
  • Brown Sugar - 100 g
  • For Golden Syrup:
  • Sugar - 2 tbsp
  • Water -3 tbsp
  • Lemon Juice or Vinegar - 2 tsp
For Sugar Icing:
  • Powdered Sugar - 1 cup
  • Milk - 2 tbsp
  • Vanilla Extract - 1/2 tsp
  • Red Color Gel for colored icing
Method
Preparation of Golden Syrup:
  1. In a bowl, add sugar, water and simmer till sugar gets dissolved.
  2. Add lemon juice or vinegar, stir and switch off flame.
  3. Keep aside.
Preparation of Gingerbread Stars:
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degree C.
  2. Grease tray, keep aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda and spices (ground ginger, cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder), keep aside.
  4. Melt butter in a pan, add sugar, golden syrup at low flame and stir continuously till sugar dissolves.
  5. Add the above sugar solution into dry ingredients.
  6. Mix them together with greased hand, make a dough.
  7. Flatten them using rolling pin, make shapes using cookie cutter.
  8. Place on greased tray and keep inside preheated oven.
  9. Bake for 12-15 mins till cookie turns light brown.
  10. Cool completely.
Preparation of Sugar Icing:
  1. Combine powdered sugar with milk and vanilla extract.
  2. Add colored gel for different colors.
  3. Spoon the icing into the piping bags and decorate the gingerbread stars.
  4. Allow to set and serve.
