Gingerbread Stars
Ingredients
For Gingerbread:
- Plain Flour - 300 g
- Baking Soda - 1 tsp
- Ground Ginger - 2 tsp
- Cinnamon Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Nutmeg Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Butter - 125 g
- Brown Sugar - 100 g
- For Golden Syrup:
- Sugar - 2 tbsp
- Water -3 tbsp
- Lemon Juice or Vinegar - 2 tsp
- Powdered Sugar - 1 cup
- Milk - 2 tbsp
- Vanilla Extract - 1/2 tsp
- Red Color Gel for colored icing
Preparation of Golden Syrup:
- In a bowl, add sugar, water and simmer till sugar gets dissolved.
- Add lemon juice or vinegar, stir and switch off flame.
- Keep aside.
- Preheat oven to 180 degree C.
- Grease tray, keep aside.
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda and spices (ground ginger, cinnamon powder and nutmeg powder), keep aside.
- Melt butter in a pan, add sugar, golden syrup at low flame and stir continuously till sugar dissolves.
- Add the above sugar solution into dry ingredients.
- Mix them together with greased hand, make a dough.
- Flatten them using rolling pin, make shapes using cookie cutter.
- Place on greased tray and keep inside preheated oven.
- Bake for 12-15 mins till cookie turns light brown.
- Cool completely.
- Combine powdered sugar with milk and vanilla extract.
- Add colored gel for different colors.
- Spoon the icing into the piping bags and decorate the gingerbread stars.
- Allow to set and serve.
