Moong Dal Sambhar


Health Benefits of Moong dal:
  • Mung beans are a high source of nutrients including: manganese, potassium, magnesium, folate, copper, zinc and various B vitamins.
  • They are also a very filling food, high in protein, resistant starch and dietary fiber.
Ingredients
  • Moong dal - 1/4 cup
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida a pinch
  • Green chillies - 3
  • Onion - 1 (large)
  • Tomato - 2 (medium)
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt as needed
  • Water as needed

Method
  1. Pressure cook moong dal with 3/4 cup of water, keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard and cumin seeds.
  3. Add asafoetida, sliced onions and green chillies.
  4. Saute well till onion turns transparent.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric.
  6. Cook till tomatoes becomes mushy.
  7. Now, add cooked dal, mix well.

  8. Add a cup of water and boil in medium flame for 10 minutes.
     
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with dosa or idly.
