Potato Channa Dal Masala

Health Benefits of Channa Dal

Chana dal is high in fiber and help to lower cholesterol.
Apart from having a great taste, it also has a very low glycemic index, which is important for those with diabetes. 
Ingredients
  • Oil - 1tbs
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - few
  • Garlic & Ginger - 1 tsp ( minced )
  • Onion - 1
  • Tomatoes - 2 
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp 
  • Chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Channa dal - 1/4 cup
  • Potatoes - 4 medium
  • Coriander leaves - few 
  • Salt -  as required
  • Sugar - a pinch 
Method
  1. Pressure cook potatoes adding salt for 1 whistle and simmer for 10 minutes, strain it and keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, crackle cumin, add curry leaves.
  3. Add minced garlic and ginger.
  4. Saute chopped onions and tomatoes.
  5. Add  salt, turmeric and chilli powder.
  6. Add little water.
  7. Add channa dal.
  8. Add cooked and cubed potatoes, mix.
  9. Mash 2 -3 pieces of potatoes and mix well together.
  10. Keep in sim and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  11. Add sugar, mix well.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
  13. Goes well with sambar rice, curd rice and chapatti roll.
