 Kumbakonam Kadappa

It is one of the famous recipes of Kumbakonam and Tanjore.. It is usually made with lentils, potatoes and coconut paste. It tastes heavenly with soft idlis and dosas.
Ingredients
  • Moong dal - 1/4 cup
  • Garlic - 2
  • Green chillies - 1
  • Potato - 1
  • Onions - 1 
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Cinnamon - 1
  • Mustard - 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 pinnate
  • Salt as required
  • Oil - 2 tsp
To grind:
  • Gram dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut - 2 tbsp
  • Fennel seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Green chillies - 1
Method
  1. Cook Moong dal in pressure cooker adding garlic pods and potato.
  2. Meanwhile, grind gram dal, coconut, fennel seeds and green chillies together. Make a paste adding little amount of water.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, crackle mustard.
  4. Add green chillies, cinnamon, bay leaf, curry leaves.
  5. Add chopped onions and saute them.
  6. Add cooked moong dal along with garlic and some water.
  7. Add cooked and mashed potato.
  8. Add salt and grounded paste. 

  9. Add more water if needed, leave it to boil for 10 mins.
  10. Once its consistency becomes thick.switch off flame and serve hot with idly or dosa.
