Mixed Lentil Curry
Ingredients- Dal - 3/4 cup (Toor dal - 2 tbsp, Moong dal - 2 tbsp, Urad dal - 1 tbsp, Red lentils - 1 tbsp, Green moong - 1 tbsp)
- Ghee - 2 tbsp
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida - a pinch
- Bay leaf - 1
- Dry red chillies - 3
- Onion (large) - 1
- Tomato (medium) - 1
- Green chillies - 1
- Garlic - 4 fat cloves
- Ginger - 1 inch
- Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
- Jeera powder - 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
- Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
- Dried Fenugreek leaves - few
- Salt as needed
- Coriander leaves - few
- Wash dal, add turmeric and soak for 5 minutes.
- Pressure cook dal for 4 -5 whistles and mash them.
- Grind green chillies, ginger and garlic.
- Heat oil and ghee in a pan.
- Add cumin, when it splutters add asafoetida, grounded paste, bay leaf, dry red chillies and chopped onions.
- Saute till transparent and then add tomato puree.
- Add salt, chilli powder, coriander powder, jeera powder, garam masala, dried fenugreek leaves.
- Now, add cooked dal and a cup of water, cook them in low flame for 15-20 mins.
- Garnish and serve.
