Lamb Jalfrezi

Lamb Jalfrezi is a tender chunks of lamb cooked in a spicy tomato gravy then finished with a fry up of chunky onions, peppers and tomoatoes and fresh garam masala.

Ingredients

Marination:
  • Lamb - 400 g
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Gravy:
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Garlic cloves - 4
  • Green chillies - 3
  • Salt as needed
  • Fresh Tomatoes - 4
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1 tsp
  • Tomato ketchup - 1 tsp
Jalfrezi Fry:
  • Salt as needed
  • Vegetable Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Onion - 1 (large)
  • Red bell pepper - 1
  • Yellow bell pepper - 1 
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1 tsp
Method
  • Marinate lamb pieces overnight or 2 hours before with chilli powder and ginger garlic paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan, splutter cumin seeds.
  • Add garlic cloves and green chillies.
  • Add chopped tomatoes.
  • Add salt, garam masala and turmeric.
  • Cook along till tomato becomes mushy.
  • Add lamb coated pieces.
  • Add a cup of water.
  • Place lid and cook for 30-40 mins in low heat till gravy becomes thick, oil separates and lamb gets cooked.
  • In a separate pan, heat some oil, add cumin.
  • When it crackles, add sliced onions, sliced bell peppers.
  • Saute them all, then add garam masala and stir fry together, keep aside.
  • Once lamb is cooked and coated well with tomato paste, add tomato ketchup.
  • Then, add garam masala fried vegetable mix on top.
  • Garnish and serve with roti/naan.
